2004 DCA Juried Design Communication Exhibition
About The Exhibition
The goal of this exhibition is to celebrate design communication and its relationship with design in as many varieties as possible, from quick sketches to elaborate presentations, with an emphasis on visual imagery. Submittals will be blind reviewed based on criteria that include communication value, relationship to the design process, and storytelling. There were 42 entries submitted, of which 27 were accepted. The reviewers considered a total of 173 images, 1 Web site and 2 animated walkthroughs. The Jury consists of three distinguished professionals. Jim Anderson, an architect and professional architectural illustrator who is principle of his own firm, has consistently received awards for his firm’s design communication work over a long career. Tom McHugh, an architect who has specialized in interior design, has his furniture designs in production with a contract corporation, and has a long career distinguished by careful attention to design communication and presentation. Kevin Forseth, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning, is a noted author of books on architectural drawing (his introductory text has been in print for over twenty years), and is currently developing software for drawing that is intuitive for architects to use. The entries were all coded and sent to the reviewers without any identifying information, and two of the three reviewers had to select a submission for it to be accepted. Awards were given by consensus of all three jurors.
